One of the first airlines, Pan Am became the United States’ unofficial flag carrier during the 20th century. In the cockpit was Juan Trippe, who pioneered tourist/economy class, pushed the development of new aircraft, and sent humanitarian flights to Cuba and beyond. In the end, Pan Am revolutionized the aviation industry, opening the jet age and bringing air travel to the masses.
